Palma City Council has joined a call for a rally outside Palma Town Hall at 20:00 on 2 September in support of Ceuta. The Mallorca gathering is among actions planned in at least 260 towns after the migration crisis affecting the autonomous city. A rally is also planned on Ibiza.

The action coincides with Ceuta Day and began as a social-media initiative called Por Ceuta. Its website is organising the local calls and setting out how the protests can be arranged.

The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has backed the call. Its president, María José García-Pelayo, has urged Spanish municipalities to take part.

Madrid’s protest is due to take place outside the Congress of Deputies rather than its town hall. Gatherings are also planned in Melilla and outside the European Parliament in Brussels, with further municipalities still able to join.
