Mallorca Christmas lights: child's drawing for Palma port

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On Mallorca, the port of Palma is looking for a child’s drawing to turn into Christmas lights: children and teenagers aged 5 to 15 who live in the Balearic Islands can enter. The Balearic Islands Port Authority launched the second edition of its drawing contest, “Del papel al cielo”, on 15 October. The winning design will become a light installation at the port this Christmas.

Entries must be original, drawn by hand and inspired by the sea, ships or the port. Pencils, felt-tip pens, watercolours and poster paints are allowed, but digital drawings and work made with artificial intelligence are not. The authority recommends simple lines, recognisable shapes and clear outlines.

The authority will choose five finalists and publish their drawings on a website on 26 October. The public can vote until 1 November, and the drawing with the most votes will be named the winner on 2 November.

That design will be used to make several sustainable Christmas lights for a prominent part of the port. The young artist behind it will also take centre stage at the official switch-on of the port lights on 27 November.
