Heat shapes the work schedule

Palma City Council has timed the start around the temperature conditions needed for the materials used in the repair. The materials should not be applied during periods of extreme heat.

Before work began, crews put up protective sheeting and carried out technical studies. These examined the wall’s condition and identified suitable materials and building methods.

Old material and rammed earth

Part of the material already on site will be reused to repair the wall. The work will use tapial, also known as rammed earth, a traditional construction method.

Moist earth is mixed with aggregates and, in some cases, stabilisers. Workers place it in layers inside wooden formwork and compact each layer by hand or machine until it forms a solid surface without visible joints.
