Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, has two Senate seats at stake: the Socialist Party (PSIB) names Catalina Cladera as its candidate on Thursday, 15 October, but its pact with other left-wing parties is not yet settled. Sources familiar with the talks told Europa Press that a deal is close. The parties have until Friday to register a coalition.

A second candidate still to be chosen

If the pact goes ahead, the other left-wing parties will choose the candidate for Mallorca’s second Senate seat. MÉS per Mallorca is due to hold an assembly on Thursday afternoon. Cladera is a former president of the Mallorca island council and served as finance minister in the Balearic government under Francina Armengol.

Socialist and other left-wing sources say the coalition aims to win five of the six Senate seats elected across the Balearic Islands. Armengol, the PSIB leader, said on Thursday that she was confident talks on joint candidates for Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera would succeed.

Ferrer runs again on Eivissa

Juanjo Ferrer will stand again on Eivissa, where the PSIB, Sumar and Ara Eivissa ran together in the 2023 election. Ferrer says that, if re-elected, he will focus on access to housing and protecting Eivissa’s culture.
