New company registrations in Balearic Islands fall 11.7%
New company registrations in the Balearic Islands, Spain, fell 11.7% year on year in July, according to the monthly advance report from the College of Registrars’ Mercantile Statistics. The figures were released on 18 August 2026.
Across Spain, incorporations rose 2.6% to 11,278 companies, compared with 10,993 in July 2025. It was the second successive quarter of growth nationally, following two quarters of declines. Madrid and Catalonia accounted for 42.1% of all new companies: Madrid recorded 2,599, up 3.4%, while Catalonia registered 2,247, down 2.9%.
The Balearic Islands were among the regions with the sharpest falls, alongside La Rioja, down 23.6%, Cantabria, down 23.1%, Extremadura, down 12.5%, and Asturias, down 10.4%. Nationally, capital increases slipped 0.6% to 2,502 operations. Madrid led with 767, an increase of 7.9%, while Catalonia recorded 473, down 10.9%.
