Mallorca petrol gap: MÉS seeks 5% cap on prices
Mallorca is among the Balearic Islands where petrol costs 20 to 30 cents more per litre than on the Spanish mainland, according to MÉS per Mallorca: the party wants to cap the gap at 5%.
The party has submitted the proposal as an amendment to the bill on the Balearic Islands’ special regime (REIB). It says the difference between mainland Spain and the Canary Islands is even wider, at 40 to 50 cents per litre.
At a parliamentary session in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 13 October, MÉS spokesman Lluís Apesteguia called on Balearic vice-president Antoni Costa to push harder for improvements from Spain’s government. Costa, who is also the Balearic minister for economy, finance and innovation, said his government had been ambitious for three years. He accused MÉS of selling out to the PSIB and said one of its MPs had spent three and a half years silent before the Spanish government without achieving anything.
