A woman injures her left leg in Sant Lluís, Menorca, after a driver allegedly punches her and tries to run her over following a crash on 16 March 2025. The First Section of the Provincial Court holds a pre-trial hearing on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

From a collision to an alleged attack

According to the prosecution, the driver braked sharply and the car behind hit his van. When the woman challenged him, he got out and punched her. He then climbed back into the van and allegedly tried to run her over. She avoided the van but hurt her left leg.

Prosecutors say the man got out again and struck another vehicle that had stopped to help after the crash. As he fled, his van hit a building.

What prosecutors are asking for

Prosecutors want the man’s driving licence withdrawn. They also seek about €2,400 in compensation for the woman and medical treatment for him.

At the same time, they say a personality disorder left him unable to understand or control his actions at the time. According to the prosecution, he had taken 40 antidepressant tablets in a suicide attempt that day. After waking and feeling unwell, he went to the psychiatric unit at Mateu Orfila Hospital. He received no treatment there and left.

In Spain, people experiencing suicidal thoughts can call Teléfono de la Esperanza on 717003717, or 971461112 in the Balearic Islands. The national suicide prevention line is 024; emergency services can be reached on 112.
