DomusVi Palma staff shortage protest held in Mallorca

Employees at DomusVi Palma staged a staff shortage protest in Palma, Mallorca, on Friday 21 August, citing excessive workloads and a lack of professionals at the residential care home. Several dozen people gathered outside the facility next to Hospital Palmaplanas between 10.45am and 11.30am.

The works committee said residents, relatives and staff from other care homes joined or supported the demonstration. It warned that further action would follow if the company does not address its demands, with another rally planned for Friday 28 August.

The committee said understaffing was hampering the daily work of technical and care teams, affecting both employees' working conditions and the care given to residents. It said the situation was damaging the health of workers and residents, and alleged that sickness absences were not being properly covered, leaving some employees with physical injuries.

DomusVi Palma said on Thursday that it was willing to hold talks with staff and had taken steps to ensure sufficient staffing over the summer. The workers' representatives rejected that account, saying the proposed financial incentives for only part of the workforce were inadequate. They are calling for higher pay for all employees to make recruitment easier.
