DomusVi Palma staffing protest over care home shortages
Staff at DomusVi Palma will hold a protest outside the care home on Camí dels Reis in Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca, at 10.45am on Friday 21 August. A second demonstration is scheduled at the same location on Friday 28 August, with backing from the General Union of Workers (UGT), FOL and Workers' Commissions (CCOO).
The workforce says shortages of qualified staff and heavy workloads are hampering the daily work of technical and care teams. It says the pressure is affecting both employees' working conditions and the care provided to residents.
Call for action from management
Staff representatives say the situation has worsened and that insufficient action has been taken so far. They are calling on the home's management to respond immediately and provide the staffing needed for employees to work and deliver care properly.
CCOO said the demonstrations seek decent working conditions and sufficient resources to ensure appropriate, quality care. Workers have also invited residents' families, the public and social groups to attend the two protests.
