In Marratxí, Mallorca, around 550 homes join a doorstep rubbish collection scheme from Monday. Marratxí Town Council is extending the service to Ses Trempes, Sa Planera, Son Daviu, Son Daviu Nou, Es Garrovers, Ses Llegítimes and Son Bieló. Shops, facilities and other businesses that produce waste will also get collections suited to their needs.

Households must put the right bin outside on the day and at the time set for their neighbourhood, then bring it back once it has been emptied. If the rubbish is wrongly sorted or put out on the wrong day, crews will leave the bag and attach a sticker explaining the problem.

Each home has a 40-litre grey bin, a ten-litre food-waste bin, bags, a collection calendar and a guide. The council briefed the households on sorting and collection days between 1 and 15 October. Doorstep collection already operates in other parts of Marratxí, including Es Caülls, Son Verí and Marratxinet.
