Alaró drains cleared ahead of heavy rain

Alaró, Mallorca, has cleared every street drain in the municipality in work intended to keep rainwater moving during wet-weather episodes. Alaró Council and water-service concessionaire Hidrobal completed the cleaning, the council said on 24 August 2026.

The work removed accumulated dirt and rubbish from the drains as part of preventive maintenance aimed at lowering the risk of blockages and other problems in heavy rain.

Mayor Llorenç Perelló said the drains lead into local torrents, meaning material washed into them can reach the natural environment. The council has urged people not to discard rubbish, plastics, cigarette ends, oils or other products in streets or drains, warning that such waste can obstruct drainage and affect the watercourses.
