Mallorca: Palma driver crashes at over three times drink limit
In Palma, Mallorca, a 47-year-old driver crashes into a pavement and a metal construction fence on the Sóller road at about 2.45am last Sunday. A breath test later records 0.85 milligrams of alcohol per litre of breath — more than three times the permitted limit.
The driver was heading towards the city centre near IES Son Pacs when he lost control and veered right, according to a report by Palma Local Police’s accident unit. The car’s front was badly damaged, and its broken oil sump leaked onto the road.
The man told officers he had been drinking. He said he moved the car to the right-hand side of the road after the crash so other vehicles could pass. He declined an offered follow-up test at a health centre.
The breath-test reading also exceeds the threshold for a criminal offence. Police are investigating the driver on suspicion of a road safety offence and have sent the case to the judicial authorities. A municipal tow truck removed the car because the damage left it unable to be driven.
