Eivissa cleaning firm loses nearly €145,000 on quality

Eivissa’s cleaning contractor will miss out on nearly €145,000 after meeting just 66% of the required quality standards for street and beach cleaning. Eivissa City Council approved the payment settlement on 7 September for the contract’s 17th six-month period. The contract is held by Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales and also covers rubbish collection.

Part of the company’s payment depends on the quality of its work. It receives the full amount of that variable element only if it reaches every target set out in the contract.

The checks are carried out every six months using objective indicators listed in the contract documents. With the company falling short of the 100% threshold, the council has cut the quality-linked payment.

Jordi Grivé, Eivissa City Council’s fourth deputy mayor and councillor for Cleaning and Environmental Management, said scrutiny of the service would continue. He said residents were entitled to a proper cleaning service and that public money would only pay for work meeting the agreed standards.

Grivé added that the council would not overlook work that falls below the required quality level or pay the company more than it is due.
