Eivissa drugs haul: German held over 35kg car stash
Nearly 35kg of drugs were found hidden inside a car in a garage in Eivissa, and a German man has been remanded in custody. National Police searched the suspect’s home and seized two vehicles on Monday 24 August. Officers say one of the cars had been kept permanently in the garage of a residential development.
Inside that vehicle, police found electronically opened hidden compartments used to store the drugs. Officers call such concealed vehicle spaces “caletas”.
The haul included ketamine, cocaine and hashish, according to the Balearic Islands’ Superior Police Headquarters. Police also seized €22,000 in cash and several mobile phones.
The investigation forms part of Operation Verano. Police said they began looking into the case after detecting that a foreign man had travelled to the island for suspected drug-trafficking activity. He was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking before a court ordered his provisional imprisonment.
