Electronic care records launched in Eivissa care homes

Eivissa, Balearic Islands, launched shared electronic care records for residents of public and private care homes on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. Health Minister Manuela García presented the scheme at the Can Blai Residence and Day Centre in Santa Eulària.

The system allows staff from the Health Service and care facilities treating dependent people to view residents’ clinical information. Can Blai, which is run by the Foundation for Care and Support for Dependency and the Promotion of Personal Autonomy, is one of six Eivissa homes due to receive the system.

Three homes connected

Three residences are already exchanging information: Can Blai, with 79 users; Sa Serra Residence in Sant Antoni, with 82; and the Can Raspalls Residence and Day Centre in Sant Jordi, with 58. Other facilities for dependent people are to join gradually.

Staff will be able to consult a single record that is updated in real time and covers each user’s health and social situation. The shared view is intended to support care and clinical decisions.

Clinical and administrative data combined

The project links care-home clinical systems to NEXA, the corporate information system and interoperability platform. The Civitas population database is also being integrated to keep residents’ administrative records current.

NEXA will incorporate identification details, clinical reports on admission to a residence, hospital referrals and quarterly progress reports. It will also record geriatric conditions including falls, incontinence and dysphagia.

The IoREs project has a budget of €1,573,579, funded through the Programme for Sustainability, Efficiency Improvement and Equitable Access to the National Health System. It forms part of the Health Service’s 2025-2029 Strategic Plan for Digital Health Transformation and Innovation.
