Marratxí public flat empty for over two years

A public flat in Sa Cabana, Marratxí, has stood unused for more than two years, MÉS per Marratxí says. On 25 August, the party accused mayor Jaume Llompart of failing to act while the municipality faces a housing crisis. The case emerged after an alleged attempt to squat in the property.

MÉS says the flat belongs to the Instituto Balear de la Vivienda, the Balearic housing institute known as Ibavi. It holds Llompart responsible because he oversees urban planning and housing as well as the town hall.

The party says families are struggling to find homes, young people cannot move into a place of their own and rents are beyond some people’s means. Its town hall spokeswoman, Aina Amengual, called a public home left empty for so long a management failure.

MÉS also recalled that, when the protected homes in Sa Cabana were handed over, Llompart said they would stop people having to leave because they could not find housing. The party now wants an explanation for why this flat remains unused.

It said five families from Gómez Ulla received Ibavi homes on seven-year contracts, while two families evicted from San Alonso were placed in temporary emergency accommodation. MÉS added that it has repeatedly sought information on people registered as living in Ibavi homes, but claims the governing team has blocked the opposition from seeing it.
