Es Copinar: 138,293 sqm plan clears first hurdle
A 138,293-square-metre area in Es Copinar, Formentera, is set for new roads, parking, pedestrian routes and water and sanitation links after an initial planning decision on 26 August. The Formentera Island Council approved the special infrastructure plan for the UA MRL-01 action area. The move is intended to unblock a file that has been stalled since 2017 and allow outstanding infrastructure work to move forward.
The plan seeks land for public open spaces, roads and parking areas. It also provides for pedestrian and non-motorised routes, while completing water supply and sanitation networks and linking them to the wider systems.
The council says this is not a new urban development and will not increase the maximum number of tourist places. The planning keeps the area's existing profitable use.
Owners and developers will now be notified before the file goes out for public consultation. It must then pass further procedures before it can receive final approval.
