Palma eviction: MÉS demands probe into aid details
Palma, Mallorca: Details of public aid given to Pilar López, a 65-year-old woman who says she was evicted, have appeared in a media report. MÉS per Palma is demanding an inquiry on 8 October 2026 into how the information reached the outlet and whether it came illegally from a Palma City Council file. López attended a sitting of the Balearic Parliament on Tuesday.
López says an investment fund forced her from her home. MÉS councillor Miquel Àngel Contreras says she spent two months sleeping in a car. He argues that receiving public aid is a right, not a crime.
The party wants answers from Lourdes Roca, the councillor responsible for the social services department that handles such files. It has also called on mayor Jaime Martínez to help establish what happened. There is no finding that the council passed on López’s information.
MÉS says data protection law requires people handling personal information to keep it confidential. If an inquiry finds that López’s private financial details were illegally disclosed from a council file, the party wants those responsible held to account.
