Palma camp mourns Maricarmen after Madrid eviction
In Palma, Mallorca, a housing protest camp plans two tributes on Thursday, 8 October, for Maricarmen, who died after being evicted from her home in Madrid. She never made it back home. The camp plans a collective mural at 16.00 and a memorial gathering at 19.30.
The protesters blame her death on the fund Urbagestión, the judge who ordered the eviction, and the Madrid regional and Spanish governments. These are the camp’s allegations. In a statement, they say Maricarmen spent two weeks in hospital after the eviction. They also say years of fear about losing her home had harmed her health.
The camp says it will stay in Palma. Its members also intend to join a general strike on 11 November.
