Mallorca UIB welcomes 369 exchange students this term
Mallorca’s University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is taking in 369 exchange students for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. The university welcomed the group on Tuesday, 1 September, at the Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos building in Palma. The intake includes students from 24 countries and 75 from Spanish universities.
The welcome event also involved the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), a group of former exchange students which offers support and activities to newcomers, the UIB said.
Germany and Italy send 91 students each
Germany and Italy each account for 91 of the new exchange students, while 18 come from the Netherlands. Economics and business administration is the most popular subject, chosen by 107 students. Tourism has 38 students and education has 35.
259 UIB students head beyond the Balearics
At the same time, 259 UIB students will spend part of the first semester studying outside the Balearic Islands. Of those, 183 are going to foreign universities and 76 to Spanish universities.
Italy is the main international destination, with 49 UIB students, followed by Germany with 21 and Poland with 19. Business management and administration is the leading subject among those leaving, with 45 students, ahead of tourism with 21 and education sciences with 15.
The exchanges run through mobility programmes including Erasmus K121 and Sicue, as well as agreements between the UIB and universities around the world.
