Favàritx lighthouse on five million lottery tickets
Five million ONCE lottery tickets across Spain feature the Favàritx lighthouse on Menorca, in the Balearic Islands, on Monday, 2 November. It is the island’s most visited lighthouse. Higinio Sanchis, director of ONCE’s Menorca agency, and Vicent Fullana, the Balearic Islands Port Authority’s representative for the port of Maó, unveiled the ticket on Thursday, 22 October.
Favàritx has stood on a stark stretch of coast since 1922. Steep cliffs and black slate surround it, with almost no vegetation. Its white tower rises 28 metres and carries a black spiral band. It was the first lighthouse in the Balearic Islands built entirely from concrete.
The light sits 47 metres above sea level and reaches 16 nautical miles. It sends groups of one and two flashes every 15 seconds. No one lives in the lighthouse buildings now; they house an exhibition on maritime signals.
