€494.57 million fertiliser aid for 249,376 farmers

From Friday, 249,376 farmers will receive €494.57 million to help pay for fertiliser after steep price rises. Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture is starting the payments under an emergency support scheme. Farmers can check their individual grant amounts on the website of the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund, known as FEGA.

The first list of recipients has now been issued. The ministry says it will publish a second list of potential beneficiaries soon.

Payments depend on crop type

The scheme pays up to €92.5 per hectare for irrigated crops and up to €38.33 per hectare for rain-fed crops. It forms part of a €700 million fertiliser support package in the government’s response plan to the Middle East crisis.

The measure is set out in Article 50 of Royal Decree-law 7/2026 of 20 March.

Keeping farm costs from reaching food bills

The ministry says fertiliser has been among the raw materials most affected by price rises linked to the war. The aid is intended to help farms use enough fertiliser to maintain agricultural production without facing excessive extra costs.

It also aims to stop higher fertiliser bills feeding through into more expensive food.
