Mallorca leads: 74 forest fires burn 36.3 hectares

Mallorca has recorded 49 of the 74 forest fires that have burned 36.3 hectares across the Balearics by 1 September 2026. The island accounts for about 29.6 hectares of the land affected, or 81% of the total. The figures come from the Balearic Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment.

Nearly 13.6 hectares of the burned area were wooded land, while 22.7 hectares were scrubland.

Mallorca accounts for most of the damage

Eivissa recorded 16 fires, which burned about 4.6 hectares, or 13% of the total. Menorca had three fires affecting 1.8 hectares, equal to 5%.

Formentera reported six fires. They burned just over 0.3 hectares, accounting for 1% of the affected area.

Burned area already far above 2025

Throughout 2025, 82 fires burned about 13.8 hectares across the Balearics. In the first nine months of 2026, the area affected has risen by 163%.

The number of fires this year, however, remains below last year's total of 82.
