In August 2025, the Balearic island of Formentera has 33,893 people on it, against 11,690 registered residents. That puts its summer headcount 189.9 per cent above the resident population — the biggest gap of any Balearic island. The figures come from the Human Pressure Indicator, a count included in the Balearic Islands Economic and Social Council’s 2025 report, presented to the Island Council of Formentera.

Mallorca’s headcount is 49.8 per cent above its resident population. The gap is 81 per cent on Eivissa and 112.9 per cent on Menorca.

Across Eivissa and Formentera, tourist numbers rise by 1.2 per cent in 2025, but overnight stays fall by 7 per cent. Visitors stay for less time on average. Work on Formentera also swings sharply with the season: the report counts 7,628 workers in July and 3,005 in December, the largest seasonal variation among the islands.

Island Council president Óscar Portas points to economic growth and low unemployment, but names housing as a major concern. The report identifies another limit on island life: Formentera has no in-person university courses, and vocational training is restricted to basic programmes. Young people must travel to Eivissa or Mallorca to continue their studies.
