2.6 million euros: Son Espases boosts genetic testing

Genetic testing at University Hospital Son Espases in Palma is set to speed up after the Balearic Government approved a supply contract worth an estimated 2.6 million euros on Friday. The contract covers reagents, cartridges, equipment, software and consumable materials for the hospital’s molecular diagnostics and clinical genetics unit. The equipment will be used for mass sequencing, which can analyse an entire genome.

The Balearic Genetics and Genomics Unit, known as Genib, is the regional reference centre for molecular diagnosis of genetic and inherited illnesses. It carries out specialist diagnoses and provides patients with genetic counselling. Nearly 80 per cent of rare diseases are estimated to have a genetic origin. The new technology is expected to cut response times substantially and improve diagnostic results.

Common rules for IBSalut staff moves

The Government also confirmed an agreement on voluntary internal transfers across the territorial management areas of the Balearic Health Service, IBSalut. Adopted by the health sector bargaining panel on 30 July, it replaces a range of differing arrangements with one common framework.

Future transfer procedures will begin with a resolution setting out the job categories involved, the number of posts and the service or unit concerned. Most posts offered will be vacancies. Preference will give particular weight to staff seniority in their current category and unit.
