Palma glass recycling: 10,521 tonnes, fourth in Spain
Palma, Mallorca, recycles 10,521 tonnes of glass packaging in 2025: enough to put it fourth among Spain’s provincial capitals for glass collected per person. The glass goes into the city’s green recycling containers. Recycling organisation Ecovidrio’s figures, cited by Palma City Council, put the average at 83 glass items and 24.2 kilograms per resident.
That is 20 per cent above the national average. Only San Sebastián, at 35.8 kilograms per person, Pamplona at 29.1 and Bilbao at 25.1 rank higher.
Ecovidrio estimates that Palma’s glass recycling prevents more than 6,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions — roughly what 3,000 cars would emit in a year. It also saves more than 7,500 megawatt-hours of energy, equal to two weeks of household electricity use across the municipality, and avoids the extraction of more than 12,600 tonnes of raw materials.
