Gold chain theft: two arrested in Playa de Palma
Spain’s National Police arrested two men after a tourist’s gold chain, valued at about €5,000, was allegedly stolen in Playa de Palma in Palma at around 1.45am on Friday. The arrests followed an incident involving a group of four men and a tourist couple.
Police said one man approached the woman offering costume jewellery and placed several chains around her neck. When she declined, he removed them but is alleged to have also taken her gold chain.
Plain-clothes officers on crime-prevention patrol intervened after two men left the group. Investigators believe the chain was passed to another member of the group, and the two detainees, both of Senegalese origin, are suspected of theft.
