Palma GPS tracker: worker finds device on private car

A worker in Palma found a GPS tracker on his private car after noticing someone following him and filming him on a mobile phone. National Police arrested a man on 28 August, suspecting he placed the device to monitor the worker’s routine. The man is under investigation on suspicion of an offence against privacy.

Police say the case emerged from an earlier inquiry into alleged irregular employment contracts. Weeks earlier, officers from Group I of UCRIF, within the National Police’s Provincial Immigration and Borders Brigade, arrested three people. They are suspected of offences against workers’ rights and the rights of foreign citizens, as well as facilitating irregular immigration.

During that inquiry, officers learned that one of those arrested may have hired a private security professional to watch one of his employees. Investigators say he believed the worker was doing another job while on sick leave.

The worker recognised the person following him as someone known to the establishment where he worked. Police say the latest arrest brings their investigation to a close.
