Palma gun threat: man held after firing at own car

Reports of a gun threat in Palma, Mallorca, led National Police to arrest a man on 29 August after witnesses said he drove around making death threats. One witness told officers the man appeared drunk and repeatedly said he had to kill someone.

The 091 emergency line received several calls about a man in a vehicle carrying a firearm. One caller reported during the night that he had fired at his own car. By morning, the vehicle had been reported in Palma’s Son Gotleu and Rafal neighbourhoods.

The National Police Robbery Group traced the man to a home in the municipality of Llucmajor, Mallorca, where officers arrested him and searched the property. They seized a calibre 38 revolver, described by police as a real firearm, with two cartridges and a spent casing. Officers also found an air-powered revolver, pellets and two bladed weapons.

Police later found the vehicle and saw a hole in its windscreen consistent with a firearm shot fired from inside. The car was seized for examination by the scientific police unit. The man was arrested on suspicion of illegal weapons possession.
