Balearics heat warning: 35 degrees forecast Monday

The Balearic Islands are under a yellow heat warning on Monday, 7 September, with temperatures set to pass 35 degrees in broad areas of the archipelagos.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, says the heat will remain unusually high for the time of year. The Balearics are among 11 Spanish regions under a heat alert.

The sharpest heat is expected on the mainland. Córdoba is forecast to reach 41 degrees, while Jaén, Seville and Zaragoza could hit 40 degrees. Orange warnings, a higher alert level, are in force in the provinces of Jaén, Córdoba, Seville and Lleida.

High pressure is expected to bring mostly clear or lightly clouded skies across much of Spain. At the other end of the scale, maximum temperatures could drop by more than 10 degrees on the eastern Cantabrian coast. Highs are also set to fall in Menorca, Catalonia and the lower Ebro area.
