Palma horse-drawn carriages allowed in orange alert
Palma, Mallorca: Horse-drawn carriages remain allowed to run on Monday despite an orange weather warning, while classes are cancelled. The animal welfare party Progreso en Verde says the decision puts horses in danger. It has criticised Palma City Council’s mobility councillor, Antonio Deudero, over the service continuing during warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The party says the decision contradicts earlier promises of strict rules to stop carriage rides in bad weather. It also says local police have received no order to halt the service. Progreso en Verde president Guillermo Amengual says some carriage drivers have ignored the warnings. He accuses the council of putting economic gain ahead of animal welfare and public safety.
