Ciutadella hotel cash and handbag theft: two arrested
Cash goes missing from a hotel reception in Ciutadella: Spain’s National Police arrest a man and a woman suspected of taking it, stealing a handbag from a home and using the credit card inside. The case began last Thursday, when officers were called to a bar over an argument between the pair. They found it was a minor row.
Later, police were called to a hotel in the same town. A couple had allegedly taken advantage of a moment when staff were distracted to pick up the key to a safe and steal cash. Hotel security footage showed the same two people officers had seen at the bar.
Officers found the pair in the street minutes later, carrying a credit card and personal documents in someone else’s name. That person had reported a theft at her home the previous day. Unknown people had entered overnight and taken her handbag, which held the documents and card. Police said the card had been used for several unauthorised payments.
