At about 02.00 on Saturday in Ca n’Escandell, Eivissa, Ibiza, a police officer climbs to a first-floor balcony to reach a 78-year-old woman who has fallen in her bathroom. A neighbour has heard her cries and called 092. He knows she lives alone and has fallen before, but cannot get an answer from her.

Eivissa Local Police officers hear the woman calling for help when they arrive, but cannot get through the front door. Fearing she may have been on the floor for hours, one officer climbs the building’s facade while a colleague gives him a boost and supports him. He gets in through a shutter and opens the door for the other officers and medical staff.

They find the woman sitting on the bathroom floor and in pain. The officers help her into a chair, and a 061 ambulance takes her to Can Misses Hospital. Eivissa City Council, reporting the rescue on Tuesday, praises the officers’ response and the neighbour whose call brought help.
