Ibiza car permit crackdown: 10 face €10,000 fines

Ten private vehicles are now facing sanction cases on Ibiza after travelling without the required permit. The Consell d’Eivissa, Ibiza Island Council, opened the cases on 27 August. Breaches of the rules can bring fines from €1,001 to €10,000.

422 number plates under scrutiny

The council has begun a second round of checks using mobile number-plate cameras at sites across Ibiza, focusing on areas with high vehicle numbers. It is examining 422 registrations to establish whether the vehicles have the necessary authorisation.

Cala d’Hort is among the locations being checked. The operation adds to two number-plate cameras already installed at the port, and the council plans to build up the system with further cameras and existing readers.

Port traffic falls

The first cases have been launched even though the island’s set maximum vehicle quota has not been filled, the council said. It also reported fewer vehicle movements through the port.

Between May and July, the port recorded 129,434 vehicle movements. That was 13.7 per cent below the same period in 2024, before the rules came into force — a drop of 20,532 movements in two years.
