Ibiza councillor quits after husband held in cocaine probe
Ana Ferrer is leaving her council seat in Eivissa, Ibiza: she has filed her resignation after her husband was arrested in a police operation against an alleged cocaine trafficking and money-laundering network. Mayor Rafa Triguero confirmed the move on Monday, 5 October.
Police say the operation broke up a group suspected of bringing cocaine into Europe. Investigators allege it used luxury property firms to launder money through villas in Eivissa, Marbella and Madrid.
Triguero said Ferrer shared some of what she knew with him last week, and they agreed she would resign. She has now put that decision in writing, but it must still go before the full council. The process will take time, he said. Someone further down the electoral list is expected to replace her.
The mayor called the resignation a personal family matter and urged caution until there is a final court ruling and the full facts are known. He said the situation is affecting Ferrer and her children, and that even Ferrer does not yet know its full scale.
