Ibiza ITV: upfront payment after 40% no-shows
Drivers booking an ITV vehicle test in Ibiza must pay the fee when they make the appointment from Wednesday, 26 August. The Island Council of Ibiza is bringing in compulsory advance payment after more than 40% of booked inspection slots were left unused. It says the move will also curb misuse and fraud in the reservation system.
The council's mobility chief, Mariano Juan, said empty bookings cannot be allowed to block people waiting for an inspection. Drivers can cancel or change an appointment up to 24 hours beforehand without paying the fee again.
The rule was provisionally approved in January and is now final following the public consultation period. The council says it is part of wider action to improve the ITV service and cut waiting times, including a planned framework for privately run inspection stations under its supervision.
New ITV fees start on Wednesday
The new payment system arrives with revised charges. Vehicles of up to 3,500 kilos authorised maximum weight will cost 28 euros, while motor vehicles with up to three wheels will cost 12 euros.
A second inspection costs 6 euros for first-category vehicles in certain cases. Periodic checks for tractors and agricultural machinery are set at 15 euros.
Drivers whose first test is unfavourable can return within seven working days without another charge if there are no more than four serious defects and the vehicle does not need to go through the inspection line again.
