Ibiza gets four direct New York flights a week

Ibiza will gain four direct flights a week to Newark, New York, when United Airlines starts the route on 31 May 2027. The service will run until 7 October, with departures on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The Ibiza Island Council says the new link is a major step for the island’s connection with the US market. Its president, Vicent Marí, said the announcement showed that planning, data and work with the tourism sector can deliver results.

The council had initially aimed for at least one direct weekly connection. United’s four flights go well beyond that target.

Its tourism promotion department worked with United Airlines, airport operator Aena and island tourism businesses on the route. Ibiza’s tourism intelligence system found sufficient demand to explore a non-stop service.

US visitors made up 5.2 per cent of Ibiza’s international visitor presence between April and October last year, making the country the island’s seventh-largest international market. In May 2026, the number of North American tourists rose 21.74 per cent on the same month a year earlier.

From January to June this year, there were 4.9 million searches for flights between the US and Ibiza, nearly 40 per cent more than in the previous year. The council also said North American hotel brands on the island account for more than 8,000 places.

Marí said the route fits fully with the council’s policy of limiting tourism. The aim, he said, is not growth for its own sake, but better-managed visitor flows and more value from tourism activity.
