Mallorca police seize nearly 100,000 goods in Playa de Palma

Police in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, have seized nearly 100,000 products since May in 88 targeted operations against illegal street selling. By August, the Tourism Security operation, known as Setur, had filed 3,244 reports for different offences. The special deployment began on 11 May and is due to remain in place until 31 October.

Street selling accounts for most reports

Illegal street sales led to 2,243 of the 3,244 reports. That is almost twice the 1,200 recorded for the same offence during last year's May-to-October campaign.

About 78,000 of the seized products fall into a category whose sale is a crime against industrial property, according to Palma City Council. Officers also filed reports over unauthorised massage work, the trile street game and alcohol consumption.

24-hour patrols continue through October

Setur has 95 officers assigned specifically to Playa de Palma this year, with an average of 60 on duty each day. The area is watched around the clock.

Palma mayor Jaime Martínez praised the results and thanked officers for their work during the summer period. The deployment will continue until 31 October to strengthen police presence and security in the busiest areas during the tourist season.
