Ibiza reports four illegal holiday lets after checks

Four property owners in Eivissa, Ibiza, face action over illegal holiday lets after 30 homes were inspected last week. Eivissa Local Police and the Consell d’Eivissa, the island council, recorded the four cases. They bring the number of illegal holiday-let reports processed this year to 11.

Earlier case brings €793,000 penalty

Mayor Rafa Triguero said tackling unlicensed activity was an “absolute priority”. Homes without a tourist licence are not intended for holiday use, he said.

The council also pointed to a case from 2024 in which objections were rejected in June. A fine of more than €793,000 followed after a residential home was found to have been switched to tourist use without the required authorisation.

Transport checks bring proposed fines

Separate checks on illegal passenger transport led to proposed penalties totalling €27,400. Police found one unauthorised additional service and another case of customers being sought at a taxi rank.

Officers also recorded seven breaches for exceeding the quota for hire vehicles, along with two cases of dangerous driving.
