IMAS faces PSIB questions over Mallorca care home claims

PALMA, Mallorca — The PSIB has called on the Instituto Mallorquín de Asuntos Sociales (IMAS) to account for reported irregularities in the preparation and administration of medicines at residential homes for older people. The request, made on 24 August, also concerns alleged unpaid allowances for staff at the Llar dels Ancians.

The socialist party has submitted questions seeking details of the procedures used at the homes, the staff responsible for preparing and administering medicines, and whether allowance-payment issues extend to other roles or IMAS centres.

Requests over medicine procedures

PSIB has asked for copies of the medicine-administration protocols currently in force across all IMAS residential centres for older people. It also wants IMAS to specify who undertakes each stage of preparing and giving medicines.

Sofía Alonso, deputy spokesperson for the socialist group at the Consell de Mallorca, said the party wanted to establish what was happening, which procedures were being followed and who was handling the medicines.

Questions over staff allowances

Alonso said some Llar dels Ancians employees had not received allowances for night and public-holiday shifts since February. PSIB has asked whether the issue is confined to TCAE staff or has affected other professional groups.

The party also wants to know whether similar cases have arisen at other IMAS residential homes. Alonso said the president of IMAS should provide an explanation as soon as possible.
