Italy border controls identify 13 travellers in the Balearics

Border controls for arrivals from Italy have identified 13 travellers at airports in the Balearic Islands, Spain, since Monday, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior said on Wednesday 19 August.

Eivissa recorded eight passengers across nine flights, while Mallorca recorded five passengers on two flights. One flight was checked in Menorca, where no third-country nationals were recorded.

The temporary controls at Spanish airports and ports with direct links to Italy began on Saturday 8 August and are scheduled to remain in force until 7 September.

More than 6,000 document checks nationwide

By 1pm on 19 August, officials had requested documentation from 6,148 people arriving in Spain. The operation covered 565 flights and involved 911 officers.

Since Monday, 612 passengers had gone through the procedure. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded 293 passengers arriving on seven flights, while Barcelona El Prat Airport recorded 190 third-country nationals on nine flights.
