Eivissa, Ibiza ITV prepayment mandatory from 26 August
Drivers booking an ITV vehicle inspection in Eivissa, Ibiza, will have to pay the fee upfront from Wednesday, 26 August, under a system introduced by the Consell d'Eivissa. The measure was published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands on Tuesday after the amendment to the local ordinance received final approval.
The change, provisionally approved in January, requires payment when an appointment is requested. It is intended to tackle missed bookings, which the island authority says account for more than 40 per cent of scheduled ITV appointments.
Booking rules and service plans
Appointments may still be cancelled or changed up to 24 hours in advance without requiring another payment. Mariano Juan, the mobility councillor at the Consell Insular d'Eivissa, said the advance charge should also prevent improper or fraudulent use of the reservation system.
The council is pursuing further measures to improve the inspection service and shorten waiting times. These include a proposed regulatory framework allowing private companies to run inspection stations on the island under council supervision.
New ITV fees
The new tariff takes effect alongside the prepayment system. Vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kilos will be charged 28 euros, while motor vehicles with up to three wheels will pay 12 euros.
A second inspection for first-category vehicles, among other cases, will cost 6 euros, and periodic inspections of tractors and agricultural machinery will be priced at 15 euros. Where an initial inspection is unfavourable but faults do not require another pass through the inspection line and number no more than four serious defects, motorists have seven working days to complete a second inspection without paying another fee.
