The contest aims to encourage creativity and introduce pupils to Alcover’s writing and the Balearic Islands’ cultural heritage. A book presented at the event, Joan Alcover: el poeta del dolor, pairs a short biography and selected poems with ideas for classroom activities.

Three categories and €300 first prizes

Pupils studying for the bachillerato qualification can enter poetry. Those in the third and fourth years of compulsory secondary education can submit stories, while first- and second-year pupils can enter visual art.

Each category has a €300 first prize. Poetry and stories also have second and third prizes of €200 and €150, plus two awards of €100 each. Visual art has a €200 second prize and four awards of €100 each. The teacher of each first-prize winner receives €150.

Entries close on 21 January
