Palma playground set to double in €160,000 revamp
Palma’s playground at Park La Femu in the l’Olivera neighbourhood is set to grow to more than 586 square metres under a €160,000-plus revamp. Palma City Council is due to approve the scheme on Wednesday. The work is expected to take eight weeks and will focus particularly on children with neurodevelopmental difficulties.
The play area will be more than twice its current size. The council says it drew up the project with the local residents’ association and groups represented on its accessibility panel.
New play equipment and safer surfaces
The redesigned site will include climbing equipment, a hexagonal swing, a carousel and a trampoline. An accessible castle and accessible digger are also planned, alongside equipment intended for free play, challenges, cooperation and team games.
Rubber surfacing will be laid in fall areas, while another play space will use shock-absorbing sand. Picnic tables, benches, planter benches and an accessible drinking fountain are also part of the plans.
Seven trees for natural shade
Seven tipuana trees will be planted to provide natural shade. Four will stand around the play area and three inside the children’s zone.
Signs will show the logical order for using the equipment. The council says this is intended to make the inclusive features easier for children to understand and use independently.
