Llucmajor, Mallorca, has approved an eight-year waste contract that will bring door-to-door collections to its urbanisations and add 1,000 new 240-litre bins. The council signed off the three waste-service lots at an extraordinary meeting on Friday, alongside new cleaning contracts for municipal buildings and public schools.

The waste awards have a combined value of 48.28 million euros. The collection contract now faces a 15-working-day period for possible appeals. If no appeal suspends the process, the council can formalise the deal and the new operator can begin work.

Door-to-door collections and extra capacity

Urbaser S.A. has won the 36.6-million-euro contract to collect household waste. Its service will be adjusted for seasonal demand, with more frequent collections planned during periods of higher demand.

The package also includes an extra follow-up collection team, a new full drop-off area, container-cleaning days and two mobile platforms. Six drop-off areas will be adapted.

Melchor Mascaró SAU-Adalmo SL has been awarded 9.87 million euros to manage, transport and treat waste from recycling centres and supervised drop-off areas. Deixalles Serveis Ambientals EI, S.L. will receive 1.8 million euros for arranged collections of reusable bulky items and textile waste.

Schools and council sites get new cleaning contracts

Samyl Facility Services, S.L. has secured both cleaning lots. The 1.15-million-euro award covers administrative premises, municipal buildings, sports grounds and swimming pools, while public schools are covered by a 2.23-million-euro lot.

That contract runs for three years and may be extended by a further two. It includes allocated hours for extra and specialist work, cleaning blinds, removing spontaneous vegetation at selected sites and cleaning air-conditioning filters.
