Mallorca: lunar eclipse view ends at moonset

On the night from Thursday to Friday, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible over Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. The moon will set there before the partial phase is over, cutting the view short.

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional says the eclipse can be watched with the naked eye and poses no risk. No special equipment is needed, and the event will be visible across Spain. It will also be a full moon.

In central and eastern mainland Spain, as well as Melilla, the moon will also set before the partial phase ends. In the rest of the mainland, the Canary Islands and Ceuta, it will set afterwards.

The lunar eclipse follows last Wednesday's total solar eclipse. Its total phase was visible from the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland and the north Atlantic Ocean, and from Spain shortly before sunset.
