Mallorca patrol boat backs new Mediterranean customs hub
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands: the Cóndor patrol boat is set to sail from the island as the Balearics become a customs surveillance hub for the western Mediterranean. Spain’s Tax Agency Customs Surveillance Service announced the plan on 19 October 2026.
The service is adding patrol boats and dividing its work between three regions. It says the arrangement will extend preventive patrols, strengthen checks on commercial traffic and help crews respond faster to specific targets. A Canary Islands base will focus on early action along Atlantic routes, while a base in Galicia will strengthen surveillance off its coast.
The new Torgo II will be based at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. More than 38 metres long, it can reach 30 knots, carry up to 18 crew and travel more than 1,500 nautical miles. The service says it will help tackle drug trafficking and smuggling. Its sister boat, Torgo I, is due to berth at Brens, near Cee in Galicia. Two other ships, Petrel I and Fulmar, are normally based in Vigo and Cádiz. The Cóndor’s role is to sail from Mallorca to patrol the Mediterranean.
