Mallorca election alliance missing from Madrid list

A planned election alliance involving MÉS per Mallorca is missing from Spain’s central coalition list on 17 October. The five parties intend to contest seats in the Congress of Deputies for the Balearic Islands in the 29 November general election. Their absence from the list has a straightforward reason: the islands form a single electoral district, so the alliance must register with the provincial electoral board instead.

The alliance brings together MÉS per Mallorca, MÉS per Menorca, Ara Eivissa, Sumar and Esquerra Unida. Spain’s Central Electoral Board lists nine other coalitions. Frente Amplio, which plans to stand across much of Spain, will not contest the election in the Balearic Islands.

Next week, the Central Electoral Board will check whether the coalitions registered with it meet the formal requirements. Parties must submit their candidate lists to the relevant provincial electoral boards between 21 and 26 October. The confirmed candidacies will be made public on 3 November.
