Mallorca fuel prices: government to hear from firms

Mallorca faces the same fuel-price squeeze as the rest of the Balearics: the regional government will meet business sectors from next week to hear how inflation is affecting them. Government spokesman Antoni Costa announced the talks in Palma on Friday, 9 October, after a cabinet meeting.

The government wants to hear what rising costs mean for each sector before deciding whether it can offer help. Costa, who is also the minister for Economy, Finance and Innovation, gave no details of possible measures. Inflation is also pushing up the cost of the shopping basket.

The talks are likely to involve the same business representatives with whom the government agreed €160 million in aid in April over the war in the Middle East. It will also examine a Spanish government decree intended to ease petrol and diesel prices. Parliament has yet to approve that decree.
