Mallorca pharmacies could help spot illness earlier
Mallorca’s pharmacies could take a bigger role in spotting illness early: a vote in Palma, Mallorca, on Wednesday, 14 October, calls for them to become a lasting part of public health work. The Balearic Parliament’s Health Committee unanimously backs the proposal from People’s Party MP Isabel Borràs, according to the parliament. It asks the Balearic Government to involve local pharmacies in promoting health, preventing disease and detecting problems early under its health plan.
Better access and closer links with doctors
The proposal calls for clear, lasting rules so pharmacies’ work follows public health priorities. It also asks the government to improve access to health services through pharmacies, particularly on smaller islands and in harder-to-reach areas.
Pharmacies and primary care teams should be able to share information in both directions, the committee says. It also wants pharmacies to play a stronger part in monitoring medicine safety.
A push for bone marrow donation
The committee unanimously backs a second People’s Party proposal, presented by MP Sandra Palau, calling for campaigns to explain bone marrow donation. It asks the government to work more closely with the Balearic Health Service, Redmo, the Josep Carreras Foundation and patient groups to make reliable information and donor registration easier to access.
The proposal also calls for information in schools, universities and youth spaces to reach younger people. Accounts from donors and patients would help show the impact of donation.
